STEPHEN KING

Stephen has been advocating, researching, training and leading teams on sustainability and sustainable development since 2010. He was previously responsible for corporate sustainability and responsibility (CSR) at the Etisalat Group and led a change project to implement a more mature strategy across the companies international operations. This included increasing familiarisation with ISO26000 and supporting subsidiaries with their reporting goals, particularly UNGC Communications on Progress and GRI studies.

In 2014 he left Etisalat and began developing his own training materials, which would later be inspired by the UN Sustainable Development Goals. During the summer of 2015, Stephen was an active member in a global virtual communications corp responsible for launching the SDGs. Here he counseled Ooredoo in Kuwait as well as teaching SDGs to youth at Middlesex University Dubai.

In 2016 and 2017 he would spend summers in Amsterdam and London developing a comprehensive program to inspire action for the Goals amongst adults. The Social Good Summer in Amsterdam was recognised by the UN Foundation as an official Plus Social Good event. Stephen would later be invited to join the UN Foundation's global team of digital advocates on a campaign to support COP23 and later COP24 where the Paris Agreement was signed.

In 2017 and this year, Stephen has been invited to participate as an expert in many SDG-focused events. These include the Social Good Summer in Tunisia, as well as the SDG Pioneers Awards and the Global Goals World Cup UAE-tournament. Most recently he has been supporting the Sustainable Relationship Partners increase knowledge of the SDGs amongst Dubai's SMB community.

Stephen is one of the world's most active SDG teachers with connections with UN and SDG-related civil society organsiations around the world. He has taught the SDGs almost non-stop since their launch, and has clocked up more than 400 hours of classroom time. He has also written over 70 articles covering assessments of National Voluntary Reviews, indicators, and areas of growing concern including climate change and BREXIT.

He is 40 years old and is currently studying to formalise his knowledge through a masters in sustainable development and global governance at Middlesex University Dubai. Earlier this year he joined former US Vice President Al Gore in Berlin to become trained in delivering content developed by the Climate Reality Project to address issues of climate change.
